kde upgrade is screwed


after upgrading to kde 3.5.4 I can not login to my account. Have to use fail safe. something about could not write to /tmp- xserver may exit with error.
error setting up interprocess communications for KDE.
could not read network connection list /home/charlie/.Dcopserver_legend_0
Please check that dcopserver program is running
everything was fine this a.m. (upgraded yesterday).
whats up??

Which distro are you running and how did you do the upgrade?
