kde daemon crashes on startup after upgrading to Kubuntu oneiric 11.04

I just upgraded to Kubuntu oneiric from lucid to maverick. This is a Dell Inspiron 1545 laptop. It happens everytime I log in to KDE.

output from terminal when I issue the kded4 command:
root@ranchero-laptop:/home/monty# kded4
kded(13632): KUniqueApplication: Cannot find the D-Bus session server: "Did not receive a reply. Possible causes include: the remote application did not send a reply, the message bus security policy blocked the reply, the reply timeout expired, or the network connection was broken."

Maybe this is a hardware issue?

I don't find a lot of information on the net.
