Is everything cool with today's kernel update?

I noticed a new kernel was installed today when I did apt-get upgrade.

But what's the deal with the two-month old date on it?

This is on Ubuntu 8.04.

EDIT: I'm starting to think that what happened was that only modules were updated. This would mean that the kernel hasn't been updated since August 25, which seems like a pretty long time. Is that what's going on?

It killed my wifi, but shutting down r8187 and loading rtl8187 instead seemed to fix it. I had to reinstall my nvidia drivers, of course. Other than that, it seems to be holding together(fingers crossed).

Installed without a hitch including the Nvidia drivers. I always use the Nvidia drivers from the Ubuntu repository which I believe is why I never have Nvidia driver problem. That way when a new kernel is installed all the drivers come with it. Once you step outside the deb package management you're open to upgrade/update woes.

After the upgrade something in my system was changed or broken and now my static IP won't work, only DHCP.

I had no problems with the kernel upgrade (2.6.24-21-generic) on my desktop or laptop. My wireless driver (Ralink rt61) on the laptop, and the nvidia driver for my gforce 6200 (nvidia-glx-new from Ubuntu repos) on my desktop are still working fine.

If anyone is having trouble with their wireless drivers, install the "linux-backports-modules-hardy-generic" package if you have not done so already. If you run "sudo aptitude show linux-backports-modules-hardy-generic", or search for it in synaptic, it says:

This empty package allows people to keep their backported modules up to date when upgrading their linux kernel

Someone on the Ubuntu forums told me to install this to keep my Ralink rt61 drivers updated. It should keep other backported modules up to date as well.

Well, I wasn't having any problems with it, thankfully. I was just concerned about the old date on it, which is why I asked if anyone else had the same dates. I should have set a more specific thread title. Anyhow, I manually downloaded the latest kernel package using a known-good Live CD while wearing a tinfoil hat, and the dates on the kernel binary, ABI, config, and System.map check out, as do the sha1 hashes. So thanks anyways - it's all good. I remembered about this thread a few minutes ago and wanted to let you know how it had gone.
