kubuntu was working perfectly on my pc since i installed it. today i reboot my pc to go into wndows, then when i reboot back into kubuntu the internet doesn't work anymore. it works fine in windows and in debian sarge (where i am now) and on all the other pc's on our home network, but it all of a sudden refuses to work in kubuntu. it was working fine before that.

how do i fix this?

thanks

What do you mean by "doesn't work"? Do you get errors?

Also, please post the output of 'route' and 'ifconfig'.

not working as in when i open firefox i get a 'host page not found'. i've tried pinging the site, and using konqueror instead. i tried going to google, yahoo, msn, this site, etc. they all say 'host not found', just as if the internet were down (which is what i originally thought).

route:

jnev@jnevkubuntu:~$ route

ifconfig:

jnev@jnevkubuntu:~$ ifconfig

Well, it seems that you don't have any network interfaces configured. Are you using wired or wireless?

Please attempt: 'dmesg | grep eth0'. Did you change any hardware or settings lately? Also, do 'ifconfig -a', please.

SOLUTION

After an online chat with jnev, we determined that his /etc/network/interfaces needed the lines:
Code:
auto eth0
iface eth0 inet dhcp
to cause the interface to come up via dhcp on boot.

Hope that helps others.
