internet not working on kde

I've just started using linux, and it was working great (well, not really, but that's for another post). I was using Ubuntu 5.04 on and AMD 64 3000+.

For the record I have a broadband internet connection. It is on eth1. eth0 is for the LAN

The internet was fine. But then I installed KDE. After a couple of days (i don't get much of a chance to use linux since it is a shared computer) I finally got to try KDE out. It was working fine (well, not really, but that's for another post) except that there was no internet connection to speak of. I tried changing settings, going into the control centre, but nothing worked. It won't work on gnome either, but I think it is probably related to KDE being installed. I am desperate. Please someone help me!!

Are you running firewall? DO you have correct dns stuff in /etc/resolv.conf file?

I don't know why, but suddenly and for no reason at all, the internet started working!
but thank you anyway for your help
