Smile Installing Ubuntu on a PC currently running Windows Vista

Hi!
I'm thinking about installing Kubuntu on my laptop, I'm currently running windows vista home basic and have a celeron M processor. Since I've heard that Ubuntu is reliable and is user friendly with Kubuntu.

Now to my question: If I install Ubuntu on my computer will it "terminate" windows os, and will my files such as, music, pictures and movies remain on the HDD, or is these settings I can set my self during the installation?
I currently have a partition on my HDD will I have to partition again?

Looking forward to answers. Hop I'm not asking to much

Thanks!
