Installing Ubuntu Netbook Remix on a Acer Aspire One-How?
I just purchased an Acer Aspire One and want to install Ubuntu Netbook Remix on it. I've done a Ubuntu install on other machines but I'm confused about the Netbook Remix. Is there an actual iso I can download to create an install CD? Or do I have to install standard Ubuntu and then somehow install the new netbook remix desktop through the repository or through a CD?

Actually, you can do both. The NBR is available as a special package (you'll want maximus, too), but there are also some specialized distros that come with NBR as the default GUI base. However, considering you're using an Acer, you might be better off with Ubuntu proper and perhaps NBR - you probably know that NBR is mostly cosmetics - I use Ubuntu without any special GUI stuff on my Asus Eee 701 (with 7" screen), and it's pretty comfortable.

Thank you for the information. What is maximus?

maximus is a package that provides full-screen mode for all programs - it's really only needed so that the GUI (which is really only an application that runs on top of whatever window manager you use) occupies the whole screen. I myself didn't like that behaviour much (I checked out a couple of distros for the Eee), but it's well possible that NBR depends on maximus (in that case, it'll be installed anyway).

I just installed Ubuntu 8.10, and gnome runs fine on the little screen. I didn't care for the "netbook remix" GUI. I've heard if you have the version w/ the Solid State Drives, Ubuntu will run slow due to the drive access times. I've got the version w/ the 160gig hard drive, and it works fantastic. I didn't bother dual booting, I just left the recovery partition in place in case for some reason I ever want XP again. Only thing I don't use is the mic and the webcam, so I'm not sure if those work or not.

I installed Kubuntu over Ubuntu 8.10on my Acer Aspire One. I thought that I would try the Netbook Remix, but I get poor graphics (flickering of the NBR, fading in and out of the top bar). Any thoughts on what I could have done wrong?
