Installing Ubuntu 10.10

has anybody else had any problems trying to install iso disk image of vers 10.10. does not seem to want to load from boot. used alcohol 120 for burn, which is usually very reliable. But install seems to stall early into load. Has anybody similar experience or, Ubuntu, maybe advice please.

Need more details. Does the CD boot to a boot menu or does it simply not boot at all?

Please note that if you merely extract the files from the .ISO image, it won't boot. The ISO image is actually a raw archive of an entire CD, MBR, filesystem, and all. You not only have to copy the files to the CD, but also the Master Boot Record and file system as well. That's why if you really want to burn an ISO image in Windows the best thing to use is either ISO Recorder or InfraRecorder, as both of these burn the whole image, not just extract the files from it.

Alcohol 120% actually does the same, it is an image-burner.

alcohol 120 is perfectly adequate as a tool for burning iso(images),and I am fully aware of what an image consists of. I should however have been more specific and stated that the process stalls after the first menu. after selecting >install< the curser flashes in the top left of the screen and does no more. I think i will try a different source or maybe use astroburn to burn the image.thanks all who gave advice though,I appreciate the input.even the guy that told me i was posting on the wrong page therefore should get "no answers".I actually posted on the newbie section and did not know the differences between ubunto and linux were defined.thanks. bab
