Installing Nvidia drivers - X running Init

I am trying my best to install these drivers, but they are kinda pissing me off now... I am talking about the drivers I downloaded from Nvidia, not the restricted drivers that Ubuntu installs by default.

Now, it tells me when I run

Code:
sudo ./Nvidia_DRIVER.sh
that there is an occurence of X running. So I switch to Init 1, only to be told that Init 1 one could be hazardous because of some services not fired up. It tells me to switch to telinit3. Which Ive done, only to be told that X was running :@

How could I go about this?

Thanks!

Have you tried booting into runlevel 3? Or did you just switch from 5 to 3? Try booting into 3 by editing you /etc/inittab file

from a console as root (or sudo), try init 1. I think in Ubuntu, 3 is the same as 5
