Installing Kde?

Yes I know there is Kubuntu as well, but I would then be asking about installing gnome. I use apps from both camps and the best way to have the apps is to have both kde and gnome installed. I also like a little variety and change from time to time. I was woundering is there any reason both can not be installed as it is possible in Debian, is there some reason Ubuntu can only have one or the other?

Is it possible to simply add debians source for kde3.5 to my apt sources and install upgrade to kde 3.5?
Also I have 3d excel installed and inabled for my nvidia card but quake 3 will not play and gl-117 has dependancy troubles does anyone have a good .deb of gl-117 that they know works with Ubuntu 5.10, thanks in advance.

If you "apt-get install kubuntu-desktop" you will be able to install KDE on your Ubuntu system. You can get the latest KDE 3.5.1 for Kubuntu or Ubuntu. The instructions are somewhere on the Kubuntu website.
