installing java runtime envirionment and jdk on ubuntu 10.10


HI I wanna install java on ubuntu 10.10 but when I run the commands posted on the internet I get the errors like
umair@umair-VirtualBox:~$ sudo apt-get install sun-java6-jre sun-java6-plugin
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
Package sun-java6-jre is not available, but is referred to by another package.
This may mean that the package is missing, has been obsoleted, or
is only available from another source

This may mean that the package is missing, has been obsoleted, or

E: Package 'sun-java6-jre' has no installation candidate
E: Package 'sun-java6-plugin' has no installation candidate
can anybody help me quickly ?

You need to add (uncomment) the partner repo:

http://archive.canonical.com/ubuntu maverick partner
to your /etc/apt/sources.list

Either directly edit the file:

sudo nano /etc/apt/sources.list
and remove the comment from the following line

deb http://archive.canonical.com/ubuntu maverick partner
Or open up Software Sources and enable.
