Installed "new" Nvidia driver...Ubuntu won't run

Using Adept Package Manager in KDE, I installed the Nvidia driver for "new" graphics cards. Then, I ran the "enable" command that I found in the driver description. Now, the boot process gets stuck on the Kubuntu screen and doesn't proceed past that. I can boot into Recovery mode, but I don't know what to do from there.

First things first - how can I get back to my desktop? I'll worry about properly installing the latest Nvidia driver for Linux later. Thanks a lot.

System:

Dell XPS 410
Nvidia 8600 GTS
Creative Soundblaster Audigy SE
2 GB RAM

Type this in the terminal:
Code:
sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg
This will open a dialogue box for restoring your settings.

Thanks for the great tip. I was able to fiddle around with the video settings enough to get my desktop to load again.

I will do some more research in this forum about installing the Nvidia driver, and if I don't find anything that works I will start a new thread. If you know of a tutorial somewhere that I can utilize, please tell me where it is.

Hi,

Search for my username on this forum. I had posted about my nvidia experience a while back. Basically I used ubuntuguide.org and some other HOWTO that turned up using Google.
