Installation issues with Ubuntu 8.04 on a Geforce 8200 ECS motherboard

I upgraded to a SATA HD, but my ubuntu 8.04 disc wont boot.
It comes up to a initramfs or something with a list of basic unix commands when I type help.

Now if I use my old IDE HD from my old motherboard it boots right up on this new motherboard.

I guess I need a new Kernel right?

How can I install ubuntu on my new HardDrive?
I have a Windowz already and left plenty of space for Ubuntu.

Any tips on using rsync, bypassing ilegal or locked files and then setting up grub again for a dual boot?

Thanks guys, sorry I suck at this.

Have you tried booting from a live cd? Seems to me that would be a first step. Then try installing from there, if it comes up okay. You'll need to create a new partition, or let it overwrite the old one. Just be careful that you don't overwrite the Windows partition if you want to dual-boot!

Good luck.
