INIT cannot execute

Hello,

I accidentally performed a rm /bin as root and now am having troubles!

When I boot my machine I get the errors *INIT: cannot execute "etc/init.d/rcS

* INIT : Entering run level 2
* INIT : cannot execute "/etc/init.d/rc"

I can get into the kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.15... root=/dev/hda

and bin exists there although there seems to be a problem with tty and /bin/sh???

Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks

Looks like you deleted some important packages and apart from a reinstallation, I can't see any other way to resolve your problem unless you have a backup of /bin somewhere.

What was wrong with the answer? You are the one who made the error and I was simply telling you that unless you have a backup of /bin, then you have to reinstall. I am not sure what answer you were expecting. Being a moderator does not mean I am a Linux guru, but in your situation, I am sure even Linux gurus could not have helped you out and would have given you similar advice.
