Arrow If I install ubuntu on my ps3 will I be able to do everything I could on a PC?

Just got a ps3 and heard that you can install an entire operating system on it to use while your not gaming. I looked at some instructions online and its actually easier than I thought. I was just wondering, since the ps3 is so much different from a PC , will the operating system work the same as it does on the PC. After all, it is the same download and the same ISO images. Does that mean that I can even do some C++ programing or XHTML on ps3? That would be really neat.

Note: sorry if this is the wrong place for this question.
