I need some help using Ubuntu
 

I have been using wxp-I have loaded Ubuntu to 4gb USB.
I have searched videos as to how to use Ubuntu
and they only cover the basic desk top.
What I need to understand is.
When you go to a web page and try to save(link)
how do you do that ?? (wxp favorits)
And how do you create a short cut,where do you put it (desktop ??) (folder ??)
Also where do I find the answers to BASIC questions BEYOND welcome to ubuntu video??

You can ask your questions here at LQ or on the Ubuntu forums, but you really need to provide a better heading than "Help Me!!".

If you want people to read your post, put a short description of the problem in the title. Also, don't ask too many different questions in the same post. You're more likely to get a good response if you put your questions in separate posts.

Adding web sites as bookmarks/favorites is not so much a OS function as a browser feature. Which web browser are you using?

The creation of shortcuts on the other hand is very much a Ubuntu-specific issue. Unfortunately I'm no Ubuntu user, but I'm sure someone will be around who can answer you better. Meanwhile, you could take a look here and see if that thread contains an answer to your question.

you bookmark a page in ubuntu the EXACT SAME way as you do in firefox on XP

click on " bookmark" and select "bookmark page"

fairly self explanatory

or click on the star in the location bar

click on the star ( now yellow ) a second time to manage it ( rename, add tags, where it appears in bookmark menu )

If you have ubuntu on a USB key, then the information is volatile. You will lose any changes made when you reboot.

Something to think about there.

Since xp deadline 4-14 I an trying to see if I can handle Ubuntu
I tryed in the past an gave up because I could not find answers to my questions

I just need to learn how to navagate it properly.
I help my sisterinlaw ,using zp & team viewer via skype
We both do not want to purchas new windows comp.
If I can figure this out,we will not have to trash comp,and go to snail mail to talk.

A definitive maybe. It depends upon how you got it there. If you did an actual install it would be the same as being installed to a standard hard drive. Since you indicate that you have a 4GB flash drive, I doubt that is the case as a basic install of the most current release takes 5GB. So how did you get Ubuntu on the flash drive? Did you use a program like unetbootin or pendrivelinux? If so, did you select the option to create 'persistence'. If not, then you have a Live CD on a flash drive which is a read-only filesystem and any changes you make will not be saved on reboot.

how was ubuntu installed to the thumb drive

I have Fedora 19 installed as a normal install to a 32 gig flash drive
from a install dvd to usb thumb

but also have Kali installed as a live image to a 16 gig flash drive
used " dd " on the iso

Right now I have anouther problem I downloaded ubuntu 12.04,to thumb drive,it worked,that was when I found all the questions above.
BUT I was so disipointed before I found this site that I erased it.
NOW I cant seem to install on thunb drive I also tryed a DVD no such luck.
I just want to try out before installing.

It just occured to me To solsv all my problems
Can Skype and Teamviewer or their oquivalent be installed ??
If not then I am done

I have never used Ubuntu from a usb flash drive, so I do not have any experience with that.

Be sure to always burn the iso at the slowest possible speed for the best results.
