i have installed all kinds of different players including mplayer with lame and timidity and nothing works i tried real player but couldnt figure out how to install it. any help would be appreciated.
Does timidity give you any output? How did you install timidity. I see you are using Ubuntu, so did you use synaptic? I used synaptic with Mepis, and it seems to work fine. I think synaptic recommends some other packages, so I just installed them all. I think including Freepats makes a world of difference in the quality of the sound.
yeah i used synaptic and it still doesnt work with firefox
if you go to www.freewebs.com/joeboxernc you should hear stairway to heaven. the windows users i know hear it fine me i cant hear anything anf the button at bottom of page is that puzzle peice looking thing that firefox gives you to let you knwo u need plugins. mind you that site isnt finished im still trying to decide what way to go with it.
I can't hear it either, but I assure you, when I go to midi websites and click on midi file links, a window opens up which asks me what application I want to use (timidity is the default).
When I went to wolframtunes.com (a site describing computer algorithms for generating music), I found I needed to add the mozplugger plugin. I did it using synaptic, and that site then worked fine. My classical music midi links did not play or ask me what application to use anymore! I'm sure I could still play them by saving them and running timidity from the command line, but why bother. I uninstalled mozplugger, and everything was back the way I liked it.
So I think you just need to install mozplugger, a plugin which creates an interface between the mozilla browsers and applications.
download it and then open a terminal and type in "timidity filename.mid"
see if it plays. You may not have any instruments installed if you don't get playback.
there should be a timidity++-instruments(or timidity-instruments) for mandriva, which i use on other operating systems, try to download and install that.(on any distro that supports rpm, or convert it to deb via alien to use it on a debian distro)

boxerboy@boxer:~$ realplayer
/usr/bin/realplayer: line 5: /usr/lib/RealPlayer8/realplay: No such file or directory
/usr/bin/realplayer: line 5: exec: /usr/lib/RealPlayer8/realplay: cannot execute: No such file or directory

I don't think you normally include .bin in an apt-get request. I though you normally just entered the name of the application, not the file. I also don't think you use apt-get with a binary file, but rather with .deb and .rpm files. With a binary file, I think you just use chmod to make sure that you can execute the file, then simply type the name of the binary file to run it, like a .exe file in windows.
according to properties of the file its an executable but when i type ./realplayer10gold.bin it also says file not found. its on my desktop i found it with eyes closed.
then you type cd into the directory. Linux is Case Sensitive, so you must type it exactly as seen.
Also don't forget about tab-autocompletion where you type the first 3 letters or so of a filename and press tab and it will automatically fill out the rest of the filename.
But realplayer won't play midi, only timidity will.
timidity isnt playing the enbedded midi the opera browser is but opera and java arnt seeing eye to eye i would reall like one browser to go to my site and hear music and use chat room. chatroom is java music is midi.
