I can't find imagemagick package in the repositories

I can't find the imagemagick package in the repositories.

Anybody knows where I could find a binary for that SW?

I tried to install from source but failed... Everything seemed fine up to when I tried "sudo make install", and there I got lots of errors. When i try to run any command, it does not find the libraries..

Try the following links:
1. http://www.digitalsanctum.com/2009/0...on-ubuntu-804/
2. http://ubuntuguide.net/install-image...n-ubuntu-linux

Post back the exact errors you receive then !

I would be amazed if Ubuntu does not have imagemagick. Did you search using Synaptic?

Try graphicsmagick instead.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GraphicsMagick

I find myself wishing people would not do things like this.....ImageMagick is an established standard and has been available in every distro I have ever tried. (You don't want to know how many.....)

Why wouldn't Ubuntu at least provide both---or maybe just an alias?

Aha!!
Arch has both:
Code:
[mherring@Ath ~]$ pacman -Sl|grep magick
extra graphicsmagick 1.3.12-1
extra imagemagick 6.6.1.4-1
extra imagemagick-doc 6.6.0.10-1
Several years ago, I knew I did not like Ubuntu, but was not sure why. Ever since, I have been finding reasons.

It's just a fork. Much like XFree/XOrg.

There's a 'compat' package which replicates the ImageMagick tools and options:

I finally found imagemagick with synaptic. Thanks pixellany.

Unfortunally, I tried to mogrify a picture and I got the following errors

mogrify -resize 50% cIMG_0224.JPG
mogrify: UnableToOpenConfigureFile `delegates.xml' @ magick/configure.c/GetConfigureOptions/553.
mogrify: NoDecodeDelegateForThisImageFormat `cIMG_0224.JPG' @ magick/constitute.c/ReadImage/526.
