Whilst in vim, use :syntax enable

To make it default, add the line "syntax enable" to your .vimrc file

That doesn't work in Ubuntu Feisty:

The 60th line is, no wonder:

So anybody can tell me what the hell is going on? It worked perfectly on Slackware.

apt-get install vim

(or vim-full), and replace the vim-tiny that it shipped with?

Try "syntax enable" rather than "syntax on" - as in the above post..
