how to setup a proper VNC server on ubuntu Edgy 6.10

Hello..

Me and a friend have lately tried to set up a VNC server on a machine with Ubuntu Edgy 6.10

And we are facing some "minor" problems.

Whene we try to run vncviewer localhost:1 in a terminal on the server, we get the following error message:

Code:
VNC viewer version 3.3.7 - built Jul 4 2006 10:04:48
Copyright (C) 2002-2003 RealVNC Ltd.
Copyright (C) 1994-2000 AT&T Laboratories Cambridge.
See http://www.realvnc.com for information on VNC.
ReadFromRFBServer: rdr::SystemException: read: Connection reset by peer (104)
And we would a complete walktrough on how to set VNC up on our system.

PS: we have googled and failed .. And as always, remember I'm still a noob :P

Here is a good tutorial about setting up VNC in Ubuntu:

http://ubuntuguide.org/wiki/Ubuntu_E...cation_via_VNC

I am not exactly sure about your problem, but it could be a port problem if you are behind a firewall. Did you forward port "5900" to your machine? (5900 is the default port for VNC)

Regards!

I'm trying to connect to the VNC-server, from the server. There should be no firewall preventing anything then..
And I used that guide when setting up VNC

EDIT: silly me.. I forgot to set up for remote controlling.. I probably was too focused on VNC to think of such an option :P

Anyway, I'm now able to connect to the server, from the server. I've set up the servermachine, and a mac on a network, both machines connected to a regular switch. But i just get "connection refused" when trying to log on to the server. I'm using Chicken of the VNC btw..

how do you connect to server? using a dynamic link like username.no-ip.info???
try using directly the IP address of machine.. then check firewall by pinging..
http://zen.no-ip.info/vnc.html then try this java applet client to connect and tell me if it works...
