How to remove the bottom task/toolbar on gtk2

I'm testing Ultimate Edition 3.4 OS that is built on Ubuntu 12.04 LTS it has gnome gtk2 I think. I know it doesn't have unity, its very much like the standard gtk2 with upper and lower taskbars. On the older versions all you need to do is right click on the taskbar and a window will pop up and give you the option to remove the taskbar. What I would like to know is how to remove the bottom taskbar, I want to use the Cairo-dock app. but it sits behind, I know I can set the dock to always sit on top but that doesn't give the look I'm after. Does anyone know what file I would edit or how to remove it?

Thanks for any help
Dan
