How to install rpms on Ubuntu Breezy?

How do you install an rpm package (Phoenix Object Basic - janus-software.com) on Ubuntu Linux? I've already tried alien, but alien doesn't seem to be installed.

If alien isn't installed on your system, then you haven't really tried it, have you? Go ahead & install alien, it works fine, and it works with more package types than just rpm. The easiest way is using Synaptic (System | Administration | Synaptic Package Manager; Search for 'alien' [no quotes]; select alien; Apply).
