how to fix GRUB after reinstall windows xp dual boot


ya, I have heard that I can fix GRUB with Ubuntu alternative CD, but I don't know how.

if the ubuntu cd allows this:

at the boot prompt before the CD boot up, type in:

linux root=/dev/hd?? initrd=/dev/hd??/initrd.img ro

put your disk partition where the question marks are...

(no guarantees this will work as i dont use ubuntu anymore since it uses UUID)

then run grub-install
