Do you mean finalize as in closing the CD or finalize as in finishing the burn? You can use Brasero to finalize the CD in Ubuntu but if you didn't finish burning and you can't read data on it, the disc is probably ruined and you can't recover it.

I want to close the disc so that no more file can be written to it, and it can be used on other PC. I try to fix some CD which has not closed yet, is there a way to do it ?

Hi,
Why don't you re-burn a small .txt note such as a "readme" on it and choose to close the disk..

Yes this will work, but I've over ten such disc, there must be a better way to do it, I done that with home DVD burner, but I don't see such 're-finalize' option on the burning s/w I came across.

I don't know if this too late for you, but there is a command you can execute in the terminal to finalize those disks in Ubuntu.

It might be best to make a backup copy of one of the disks on your hard drive in case anything fails. If the first one works, the others should also. If you can see the disk contents in Nautilus, you can copy and paste to make a backup on your hard drive.

To finalize the disk, insert the disk you made a copy of into your DVDRW drive. I assume you have only one drive, and that it is not an older CDRW drive. Close any windows that come up when you insert the disk. This should cause an icon to appear on your desktop with the name of the drive. It might also be a little slow to appear. Now open the terminal by going to Applications/Accessories/Terminal from the desktop menu. Type the following (or copy and paste this) into the terminal:

cdrecord -fix -dev=/dev/dvdrw

Then press enter, and the disk will be finalized/closed. Eject the disk and repeat this for each disk, but if you feel confident, you can skip further backup copies. Test the first one before proceeding with the rest by trying to get the disk to play in another device other than your computer.
