How to edit the Ubuntu Logo Script

I would like to ask a question about Ubuntu-Logo-Script. The above said script which is in the /lib/plymouth/themes/ubuntutext folder shows the purple screen with Ubuntu logo and the progressing dots.

The current version has the word Ubuntu and beneath that 5 progressing 'dots'. My question is Is it possible to remove the progress bar dots, and instead replace it with a faded Ubuntu logo, coloring upto full ?

The screen you are referring to is called the Plymouth bootsplash screen. The purple one is the default. You can find several others in the Ubuntu repos.

It is not as simple to change as it appears. You need to learn to create Plymouth themes. The tutorials are scarce at best but a search should point you in the right direction.

I would copy the current file to someplace safe and just mess with it.

Don't use Ubuntu anymore. Don't use Plymouth. Was testing Plymouth in Ubuntu before it was ever released. The splash screens are not that hard to edit (can't be, I did it quite a bit). Don't really remember much about it.

If you get LiveCDs of Fedora and Mint you can look at the files on them and see how they differ from what you have, maybe save them to your drive for reference or editing.

Kind of fun if you are interested in spending time on something you see for a few seconds.

You may also want to make sure you have all of the Plymouth themes installed from the Ubuntu repos. You probably don't have all of theme. I know Xubuntu has its own, sure Kubuntu does too.

With enough of them you will be able to cut and paste the components you want on the image of your choice.

The Logo fading up would need to be some sort of timed image change very similar to the progress dots. Shouldn't be too hard to figure out.

With your original file backed up it doesn't matter if your changes work or not really. It will end when it is time for the log in screen. You can always revert to the original. Change only one thing at a time so you know what is working and what may not be. Have FUN.
