Not familiar with specifics of the stock Ubuntu desktop, but since there has been no answer so far, let me suggest you go to Settings > System sounds (or it may be something to do with Ubuntu Tweak) and you can probably find a checkbox turnoff for the proper thing.

Hope this helps!

Hi,

Gnome desktop

When moving the mouse pointer over icons/tab on the desktop, it'll sound/inform their function. I came across this setup several years before. Unfortunately I forgot how to disable this feature.

Regards

Angry Me Tooooo

I am getting the same (I presume) noise that is driving me nuts and making me want to dump the distro. How do you disable this really annoying buzz that happens when you roll the mouse wheel or mouse over icons etc??? Mac aka sumloki

Is there something called "Accessibility" anywhere? I think that's the usual place to find this kind of thing.

It doesn't work for me.

System Settings -> Universal Access -> Pointing & Clicking
All Off

I wonder whether this is a bug here. Several years back I have played around on this feature. I could enable it as well as disable it. This time I failed.

My final solution is to reinstall the OS. Fortunately I installed it on VM of Virtualbox

Unhappy mouse over buzz

Likewise, everything I can find is turned off. Even disabled sound volume only to find it is still getting through (p.s. it is not the motherboard speaker!). The only solution is to turn off the external amplifier, which is not an ideal solution.....

I dont know if I right , but maybe on the theme file /usr/share/icons

Then open with an editor ->

/usr/share/icons/default/index.theme
see the line

Inherits=MyThemeName (/usr/share/icons/themename)

Open the theme name and see if appear an sound option linked to /usr/share/sounds and edit , maybe can work.
