How do I install additional no my Ubuntu system
 

greeting people,

first of all, you'll have to excuse me if my questions are moronic. but i'm new at this whole Linux thing so hey!

Anyway, my problem is very simple: I'm trying to install some additional software on my Ubuntu system. I'm talking about Apache,php, MySql, c, c++, gcc, g++ etc. However, im not connected to the internet.
So, I was wondering whether I can download some of these installers when im at school or something and them bring them back and install them later.

I have tried it before using the "dpkg" command but I keep getting problems with dependencies. I have currently run out of ideas so please give me a quick step-by-step guide of how I can install these on my system and any other as the need arises.

if you insist on doing that , you can go to this page :: http://packages.ubuntu.com/

type something that you intend to install inside the search box , eg. gcc and it will brings you to this page :: search results , you need to click on gcc in this page(somewhere slightly below though) ... from there it gives you this page :: dependancies hell !! ...


now the fun part ...

click on everything(most of the time) eg. those under "depends" , "recommends" and "suggests" , probably you will need all of them "somehow" ...
but do take note that there will definatetly be lots of duplicated dependancies downloads and such ...


btw ... why you need to install those stuffs since you dont have internet and why install compiler tools ??

and also ... why not bring your pc/laptop to your school ??

I, too, would find a tool useful that would connect to given repositories, and download any dependent package for a given base package (and possibly, add any of those to a single .DEB file).

As I haven't found such a tool yet, I can only provide a link to create a Ubuntu DVD. Those DVDs could be added as repositories like mentioned here.
