how change printer properties (colors very pale)

With little info about the printer and driver it is using not much I can say. Some have tools to modify colors but printer depend it. Might look up your printer here to see if there is known issues and possible issue with the driver module version you have. http://www.linux-foundation.org/en/O...SDocumentation
Does it work better on a different Linux distro or OS?

You didn't tell us what printer you have so my answer is based on my HP PSC 1410. In this case I can select printer properties relating to resolution. I have draft, 300 and 600 DPI. In draft colors are a bit washed out but as the DPI increases, the colors are more intense. 300 gives me a quality color print and I use 600 with photo paper.
