how can I change desktop

new again to ubuntu after 2 years. 2 question for starters:
#1 Can you change many icons at once? (I want to resize 8 icons at once to same size).
#2 what do I change to single click to choose items (not double click) ?

Thanks in advance.

1) I don't think you can change the size of 8 icons selectively. It's all or nothing, I think.

2) Depends on which window manager you're using: KDE, Gnome, LXDE etc.

If you are using Ubuntu (with Gnome and the Nautilus file manager) or Xubuntu (with XFCE and the Thunar file manager) simply open the file manager and click: edit > preferences > behavior tab. Then click the button for "Single click to activate items" and you will forever need only 1 click to open files or folders.

See this on how to change the size of icons in Gnome:
http://blog.thilinamb.com/2009/01/ho...buntu-810.html
And here is a video that shows how changing the icon size in Gnome is done:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UqPARQioCAk
I had to search around for this since I am not using Gnome right now. These days I have been using using Xubuntu with XFCE and the faster and lighter Lubuntu with LXDE.
As far as I know there is no way to change the size of individual icons. Any changes made will apply to all icons.

tommcd, Thanks again! I followed instructions as provided, and it worked perfectly. The funny thing is I had to start nautilus fron the terminal consolee as I cannot find it anywhere in the menu systems. It shows as being installed in Synaptic, but it's nowhere to be seen. Have any ideas what's going on? Thanks again.

Nautilus is the file manager. All you need to do is open your home directory, or any directory, and you will be in the Nautilus file manager.
Write back if you need more help.

Problem solved

tommcd, You are a very helpful person, it is appreciated. Nautilus was hiding under system > preferences > main menu. From there I made it visible and it now resides under Applications > other. There is also a systems > preferences > file management which is the specific page in nautilus (nautilus > edit >preferences) which is the same as the link you sent me.
Thanks a million! you have answered my questions perfectly and quickly. I guess this topic is closed now.
