that folder is ( like EVERY other folder in / ) is owned by "root"
guessing this IS a brush that you ARE saving IN gimp AS a .gbr
Code:
su -
gimp
then save the gbr brush

BUT you SHOULD be saving it to YOUR normal user home folder
~/.gimp-2.6/brushes

and save it there AS your normal user

first ARE THEY gimp brushes ?
or some random photoshop brush from the net
photoshop brushes will not work

the brushes NEED to be ".gbr "

save then using gimp to that folder as root

or
as root copy them to the folder
Code:
su -
cd To/The/Locatin/Of/The/Brushes
cp *.gbr /usr/share/gimp/2.0/brushes
HOWEVER YOU HAVE A GIMP FOLDER IN YOUR HOME FOLDER FOR THINGS LIKE THIS
~/.gimp-2.6/brushes

put then in there !
