Help setting NIC speed

Hey,

I got a 1Gigabit nic card in the system and Ubuntu recgonises it just fine but it seems everytime the system gets reset it drops the nic back down to 10mb half duplex. So I have to consantly do a 'sudo ethtool -s eth0 speed 1000 full duplex autoneg off' command. Is there any way to permiently set it to 1gigabit?

You can add it to your NIC's configuration. Typically the file is :
/etc/sysconfig/network-script/ifcfg-eth0

You made no mention of what distro your using, so I'll assume this is where you'll set your settings. The below is an example of this file with the last line being what your interested in.

Code:
#
# File: /etc/sysconfig/network-script/ifcfg-eth0
#
DEVICE=eth0
IPADDR=192.168.1.3
NETMASK=255.255.255.0
BOOTPROTO=static
ONBOOT=yes
ETHTOOL_OPTS="speed 1000 duplex full autoneg off"

d00d, your still going to be using your nic to its full potential with it set to 100, let alone a 1000.

I have no idea what your connected to, but I can guaruntee your not connected to an ISP provided you a gigabit internet connection.

Your not going to have any change by setting it to 1000

I'm not concerned about the speed to the nic as my ISP is only 10megabit pipe. What i'm concerned about is my backups are not going the speed they should and its becuase that box is on a gigabit network and only running at 100mb/s. Where I want the nic to be utalized the most is during the backup process
