Help Making Ubuntu Look better


where can i get like a sidebar for ubuntu 8.10 or widgets
and also a menu of icons in the bottom of the desktop like this: http://www.valeriovalerio.org/images...illwill100.png

and also where can i get a good theme so i can change how it looks?

For GNOME themes, take a look at GNOME-Look.org. For gadgets and a sidebar, try google gadgets for Linux. As for the dockbar, try an application called Avant.

the "thing" at the bottom is called Avant Window Navigator

An alternative to AWN (Avant Window Navigator) is Cairo-Dock; compare to see which one you prefer. For widgets there's gDesklets or (maybe better-looking) Screenlets. And all the KDE stuff which you can run if you like..

For really disturbing things that make some use of your (if you have one) graphics card see Compiz-Fusion ("Desktop Effects").
