gvfsd-smb freezes, stopping network file transfers

I'm trying to move large amounts of files from an XP machine to this Ubuntu machine. But, the "File Operations" window suddenly stops moving after awhile and I can't do anything with the mounted network drive. I can't even unmount it.

I discovered that if I end the process "gvfsd-smb," the drive gets unmounted and everything unfreezes. Of course, my file transfer stops, too. It's really frustrating. I'm having to transfer 19 gb a gig at a time. Is there any way to correct this?
