Google earth on ubuntu

I had ubuntu 8.10 and upgraded last night to the newest version.

I just want to download Google Earth.

I've tried downloading the newest google earth and the 4.3 version and neighter work. It wont open and I don't know what to do.

It downloads as an icon with .bin as the ending. I try to open it and I get an error message saying it's an unknown file type.

In a terminal, go to where you downloaded the file
then type
Code:

chmod +x foo.bin
./foo.bin

belladivediva, you may want to take a look at Medibuntu, which is a collection of popular applications (including Google Earth) that aren't in the Ubuntu standard repositories.

By adding a repository containing Google Earth rather than downloading the binaries, you can keep Google Earth up to date along with the rest of your system, and you won't have to worry about setting file permissions and so on.

http://www.medibuntu.org/ (see the "Repository Howto" link)
