Going to try out Ubuntu, do I need to know anything in particular?
I main reason I want to try out Ubuntu is to see how cool apt-get is. I've never used a debian based distro before, except Knoppix.
Here's some info:
Partitions:
/dev/hda1 : Contains winXP (fat32)
/dev/hda2 : My dad's partition (fat32)
/dev/hda3 : Linux root partition (ext2)
/dev/hda4 : Home partition (ext2)
/dev/hdc : My old hard-disk that has random stuff (fat32)
Dualbooting using LILO on MBR
So here's what I'm gonna do:
1) Download Ubuntu 5.04
2) Format my /dev/hda4 partition and remove slackware
3) Pop in the CD and install ubuntu
Is that allright? Do I need to do something else?
Another question: Ubuntu seems to have an i386 kernel. Will installing an i686 kernel be worth it?
Is there an i686 kernel on the CD, or will I have to apt-get it?
Also, I like using XFCE and I also use some kde apps, so I can simply apt-get them right?
Thanks in advance.
