Gnome Editting

I don't know if this goes in the Ubuntu section, but I want to edit the look of my desktop and windows. Besides downloading new themes, is there a way to modify how the windows, icons, etc. look?

I am using Ubuntu Hoary.

Thanks

Visit Gnome.org and download some new icon themes/window borders/etc.. Go to preferences =>Theme => Theme Details. You can choose between icon themes, window borders and controls. There you can click on "Install new theme" and browse for the zipped archive you downloaded (don't unzip it). Voila

I mean, is there a way to hard code it yourself? What files are there to modify? For example, I want to remove the borders completely from any terminal that pops up. Is there a profile file I can modify? Are the xml files modifiable (if that is even a word)?

Yes, you can definitely modify themes and make your own. But even I don't know how

You can go to http://gnome-look.org/ and ask the people there. Also have a look at http://freshmeat.net/articles/view/465/
