glx rendering in ubuntu 10.04

Hi, I'm having serious problems in making glx rendering work in ubuntu lucid lynx.

This is related to difficulties in installing fglrx.

If I type glxinfo this is what I get:
Code:
name of display: :0.0
Xlib: extension "GLX" missing on display ":0.0".
Xlib: extension "GLX" missing on display ":0.0".
Xlib: extension "GLX" missing on display ":0.0".
Xlib: extension "GLX" missing on display ":0.0".
Xlib: extension "GLX" missing on display ":0.0".
Error: couldn't find RGB GLX visual or fbconfig

Xlib: extension "GLX" missing on display ":0.0".

3 GLXFBConfigs:

 id dep cl sp sz l ci b ro r g b a bf th cl r g b a ns b eat
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Segmentation fault
when trying to install fglrx, installation fails.

I'm running ubuntu on a soy vaio series S laptop. Below I'm giving the output of lspci. Does anybody have an idea how to fix it?

This shouldn't be a problem in 10.04, I remember having to manually deal with fglrx in dapper and edgy but not since about 8.04/8.10. All the compositing glx stuff should be installed by default when you install 10.04. Are you sure it wasn't?

I'm not sure about that, but I had to modify a bit grphical settings in order to get the right screen resolution for my laptop (16:9 widescreen). I realised that glx was not working after this.
So I might have removed the right glx stuff but I don't know what should be installed now (as I said, fglrx can't be installed).

Have you installed the proprietary drivers for your graphics card?

Do you mean fglrx? I tried but as I said, the installation fails. My problem is similar to what is described here
