gdmsetup message: Could not access configuration file (custom.conf)

Hi LQers,

I am having a huge amount of trouble with gdmsetup.
Each and every time I launch it, an error message pops up saying:-

¨Could not access configuration file (custom.conf)¨
¨Make sure that the file exists before launching login manager config utility.¨

Yet the file IS there. ( /etc/gdm/custom.conf )

Code:
$ ls -la /etc/gdm/
total 172
drwxr-xr-x 7 root root 4096 2007-10-01 20:51 .
drwxr-xr-x 141 root root 12288 2007-10-01 19:44 ..

-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 6534 2007-04-10 21:42 Xsession
Even the file permissions seem correct (at first glance).

This is really beginning to bug me as all seems well, yet the same error message keeps coming up!

Does anyone know of a away to sort this out...Or have any advise on this matter?

TIA

Using Feisty (fully updated)

This seems like you updated from an old version of Ubuntu and didn't get through the process unscathed.

run "sudo dpkg-reconfigure gdm"
OR
make sure your gdm.conf-custom is not empty and make sure that there is no reference to custom.conf in your gdm.conf - if there is then change them to gdm.conf-custom.
OR
"sudo apt-get --purge remove gdm" then "sudo apt-get install gdm" this one may cause dependency issues when you try to remove gdm

Thanks for that!

Running
Code:
sudo dpkg-reconfigure gdm
hit the spot first time.

I´m not sure why I didn´t think of that before...
...most likely because I was sure that I´d have to do it manually.

Thanks again!
