GDM-Simple-Greeter.desktop

[Log in to get rid of this advertisement]
I installed a fresh copy of 9.1 today on a notebook. After the updates and first restart the simple greeter desktop came up with no options to type user names or passwords-. When I pressed the shutdown button a dialogue box gdm-simple-greeter.desktop not responding came up. I have been searching around the net and while there are several issues with Gnome and the above I have not found an answer as yet- any ideas?
I am starting a fresh install and will pay close attention to the updates this time.
thanks, Don

Update- I completed a fresh install checked the updates and all went well. Somehow the first install went wrong- I suspect that when I changed the desktop theme and turned off the visual effects Gnome became confused.
