fdisk and tail result in no output

Resolved..... In my case the proper command is
$ sudo fdisk -l /proc/partitions

I have an 8.04 installation. I had 6.06 previously. When I enter fdisk -l in the terminal and when trying to install a printer using tail I get no ouput. I wonder if there is a package that I need to install? I have build essentials and just downloaded the GNU fdisk. When I enter fdisk -h I do get a listing of commands.

Same results with the originally installed fdisk

ITYM "sudo fdisk -l"
IMHO having to use sudo is downright stupid.
