extracting data from a ddrescue image

Scenario:
i have a 500GB HDD with two partitions C: is windows 7 and D: my data and both are NTFS i was running ubuntu live cd and accidentally formatted the whole disk now it has no partitions i did not write any data or even try to format the disk and followed this tutorial http://geekyprojects.com/storage/how...ve-is-damaged/
in order to image my whole disk using ddrescue .
i did every thing as it says with respect to the device names and successfully imaged the disk to a 750GB USB External HDD but the image have no extension as in the tutorial.
The Question:
I need to extract only the D Partition to another 500GB HDD
because when i tried to complete the tutorial which is extracting the whole disk the ddrescue gives me and error because there is not enough space.
PS : iam running ubuntu 12.04 from live cd and consider i am new to linux
thanks

Unless you know the physical locations on the disk that the partition started at and ended at it is not possible. Unfortuantely it sounds like you have learned a lesson in maintaining good backups.

Also, I am not sure what you say you are referring to when you disk has no extension as noted in the guide. I see no reference to a file extension and in the Linux world file extensions mean nothing.
