Everything is magnified this morning (ubuntu 12.something)

*waves*
So, I'm hoping that my first Linuxquestion is an easy one for somebody. Here goes:

I woke up this morning and booted up my dinosaur of a computer to find that all the icons are suddenly huge (as was the ubuntu loading screen and log in, and so far everything else). I normally use the Ctrl+scroll magnifier on internet sites, but this is a new one on me. I'm sort of a Luddite, and am definitely a linux person because it's kind to my wallet more than anything else.

I took a screenshot of my desktop, but I don't really know if that will illustrate my issue very clearly.

Any help is more help than I have currently.
Thanks

Thought I would add that I just logged in as a guest on this computer, and the guest account has the same issue. So it doesn't appear that it is something my cat did, somehow, though he seems to be some kind of computer wizard.

All my display options (the whopping two of them) are both in 4:3 aspect. I didn't notice this before because the resolution numbers (1024x768) seem right to me, but next to that it says 4:3, which is clearly not right, right?

First guess is try Ctrl-Alt-(numberpad minus): one click makes you smaller...

Seriously, that happened to me installing a new monitor. Real solution is to go to Settings, and in the Display section (or it may be Monitor) reset the screen resolution.
