Error when trying to boot/install Kubuntu edgy.
Hi,
When i try to install kubuntu edgy and also ubuntu edgy(2 different discs) on my aopen 1845 laptop, it comes ups with an error saying that disc isnt bootable when i try to install/boot or test disc files.
If anybody can help because i have downloaded both distros twice, burnt on different types of cd's and used different burning apps. Ubuntu edgy installed 2 weeks ago but i was mucking around and want a fresh install.
Nexxt
Is there any way to check and see if the CD will boot on another machine?
What application did you use to burn the disk? What type of disk? What speed did you burn them at? Sometimes burning them at a slower speed will fix problems. Are you downloading it from 1 source, is it possible the source file is corrupted, and you can try another server?

i tried again and wrote down the exact error;
in green above the kubuntu sign:
Code:
Loading isolinux: Disk error BB, Ax =4200, drive AC
In error box:
Code:
Error reading boot cd, with option to reboot
I am getting from the ubuntu/kubuntu sites, both from torrents and server.
Burning with nero and alcohol 120% at 48x...but im trying at 4x which is the lowest option i see.
Just standard cd roms, but two different companies(wholesale generic and 'laser.')
woot! burning slower fixed the problem. Thanks IndyGunFreak
You know, I've never had this problem before, typically I just burned my DVD's at whatever GnomeBaker's default was(which I found out tonight, is 8x)...
Well, wouldn't you figure, while installing Xubuntu 6.10 on my new to me laptop tonight, burned it two different times, with no joy. It was then I remembered my own advice, and set the burn speed to 2x, took a litle longer, but booted and installed no prob.

wat i dont understand is that i installed ubuntu on my laptop a few weeks ago. I was then givin a new (to me) laptop and the same cd wouldn't boot...it was burned at 48x speed and worked fine on my old laptop...
How are you finding xubuntu btw?
Thanks again

I've always liked Xubuntu and the Xfce desktop, I have it beside my Gnome desktop on my PC. I prefer Gnome, but this laptop is kinda old, so I figured Id just install Xubuntu and not worry about it. Plus, it only has a 20gig hard drive, and Ubuntu installs a ton of programs, not that they can't be uninstalled, but Xubuntu installs less. I think however, I spent a fair amount of time uninstalling from Xubuntu what I didn't want, and installing what I wanted from the repos. I've worked on it for a few hours, and it is about as stripped down as it can be. Toss in my MP3 collection, I think I've got around 13-14gigs free, which is plenty. I was actually just now setting up my DVD player and codecs...
Other than the install issue with the DVD's, which was my fault, it works just like I expected/hoped. Now wait till I get me a wireless adapter/router in a couple weeks..lol.
As for why one DVD drive would recognize it, and another wouldn't, I have no idea. The two Xubuntu DVD's I burned, would boot my PC no prob.
