I went back to gnome again as you suggested, but the problem presisted.
The problem has to do with fact I have KDE loaded. I can run DVD movies fine, I can spend day writing a dorument with nothing hampening. It is when the computer ( KDE ) displays somthing on the screen it happens. As I said, a refresh clears it up. I think that there is somthing happening where the program gets ahead of itself.
Thanks for the suggestion, but it looks like I shall have to limp on until KDE addresses the problem.
