encoding bitrates

Hi

If I'm converting DixV to DVD video, and the source (divX) bitrate is being reported as 953Kps then if I use anything higher than this in the encoder routine (say 3000kpbs) I suppose the final video quality will be no better than the original?? How do I work out the bitrate for my DivX to DVD using mencoder?

Lots of questions!

Thanks in advance.

You NEVER will the higher quality in the reencoded video.
But MPEG2 codec needs a pixelrate at least for times as ASP MPEG4 codec for same quality. E.g. if you has a .16 bit/pixel MPEG4 video, you should reencode in .72 bit/pixel MPEG2 video.

In ENGLISH please.

I know as much about this subject as you probably know about mine, which is degredation of oceanic species and marine ecology.
