Question Edgy hangs at boot, probing for hdc

I installed Edgy Eft about a week ago and everything went hunky-dory, no issues at all. A few days later I found my cd-rom was causing problems (completely hardware-side) so I removed it from the machine alone with the floppy drive. Since doing that the system has been hanging at boot, specifically after this line:

Quote:
Nov 1 08:22:54 server kernel: [17179577.324000] ACPI: CPU0 (power states: C1[C1] C2[C2])
Nov 1 08:22:54 server kernel: [17179577.324000] ACPI: Processor [CPU0] (supports 2 throttling states)

Nov 1 08:22:54 server kernel: [17179578.684000] ide1: BM-DMA at 0xe008-0xe00f, BIOS settings: hdc:pio, hdd:pio

Nov 1 08:22:54 server kernel: [17179579.100000] hda: ST380011A, ATA DISK drive
Nov 1 08:22:54 server kernel: [17179579.772000] ide0 at 0x1f0-0x1f7,0x3f6 on irq 14
At this point it spends a minute or so attempting to connect to the aforementioned ide1 before giving up, obviously because the device does not physically exist. Then it continues with the following:

Quote:
Nov 1 08:22:54 server kernel: [17179614.572000] ide1: Wait for ready failed before probe !

Nov 1 08:22:54 server kernel: [17179646.728000] hda: hda1 hda2
In the kernel log it looks like it does one more attempt and then leaves it, finally booting up the system.

I've already edited out references to hdc in fstab and there's nothing about it in grub's menu.lst as far as I can see, but there's apparently another file out there asking for a connection to hdc.

Does anyone know where I can find it or what I can do to get rid of this problem and return to my 10-second boot?

Wouldn't you know it, but just after posting this thread I found a similar problem that another user had where he mentioned adding "ide0=noprobe" so I tried adding "ide1=noprobe" to my menu.lst file and the problem has been solved for now.

You might also want to remove any references in /etc/mtab
