Eclipse : installing CDT

The wiki.ubuntu.com site said I need to become root, then run eclipse and use Eclipse's own updater to install CDT.

I went into the console, I did su, then I tryped eclipse and got some error message.
Is there is better explanation on how to install CDT? I need some info that is clear and guaranteed to work.

I wouldd like to post the error message but I'm not home right now. It was something about X server.
Yes, I do have Eclipse. I can program and compiler in Java. I need C++ support.

You can install the eclipse-cdt with apt:
$sudo apt-get update
$sudo apt-get install -y eclipse-cdt

Otherwise post the X server error message you got and we try to solve it.
