E:dpkg was interuppted, must manually run...

Upon attempting to install something I got this message:"E:dpkg was interuppted, you must manually run 'dpkg --configure -a' to correct the problem." I am using Gutsy. I went 'sudo 'dpkg --configure -a'; but it wouldn't fix it. What am I doing wrong. That would fix it in Feisty, but not in Edgy-seems like something else worked with that. What do I need to do in Gutsy? How DO you manually run dpkg? Until this is corrected, I can't install software or update. Thanks

Since Ubuntu is a Debian derivative, you have all the options of Debian package management tools.

It began with dpkg, then came apt, followed by adept, aptitude, and synaptic.

So, if you have trouble with dpkg, try one of the others.

That would be just fine and dandy bigrigdriver Except that doesn't do it either. When I do try another installer I get 'dpkg: parse error in file '/var/lib/dpkg/updates/0048' near line 1: new line in field name'. vacuman
