Dual monitor video card

I am thinking about getting a dual monitor setup on my Ubuntu system. Are there any special configurations I need to keep in mind or should this work when I plug both monitors in? The video card will be a 32MB Matrox Millennium G450 dual head 4X AGP. Theoretically, Ubuntu should detect this and the desktop should extend between the two monitors. Am I being overconfident? What are your opinions?

No, it wont work automatically. You need to enable xinerama extensions in xorg.conf, and edit your serverlayout for the two heads. You need to decide whether you want one big desktop, or just two identical displays. You also need to rebuild your WM/Desktop software to support xinerama if it doesn't already.

This guide is kind of old, but should get you started:

What is the best way to go about this (or does it matter)? Should I use two different video cards or should I use one video card with dual heads?
