The boot gets stuck with what you see on the image. The booting process takes forever, but does eventually load the desktop. Does anyone know what this means?

It may be a bad hardware or miss configured kernel or yet both.
Now to obtain that same screen use the command dmesg in the terminal, also it is possible to send it directly to a text file like this:
Code:

dmesg > dmesg.txt

Thanks! Will try dmesg. If it's misconfigured then why does it load very quickly sometimes?

Then it is probably a faulty hardware.

I would recommend to run basic hardware tests, like testing the harddisk with the manufacturer's diagnosis tool and the memory with Memtest86+.
Did you make any changes to your hardware or software configuration recently?

veryamazing 03-31-2013 09:00 PM

Potentially, yes. So if there has been a software change it's normal for it to just hang like that for 10 minutes??

TobiSGD 03-31-2013 09:46 PM

Of course this isn't normal, but may be caused by something that is seriously misconfigured. Although I would rather think that this is a hardware issue.
